With reference to Your Lordship's
Despatch No. 294 of the 2nd. of last December and to
previous correspondence, I have the honour to forward for
Your Lordship's consideration the enclosed copy of a
letter from the Crown Solicitor dated the 2nd. instant

tendering his resignation with effect from the 31st. of
next December unless his present emoluments are increased.
2.
In 1906 the remuneration of the
Crown Solicitor was fixed at £1,000 Sterling (subsequently
changed to $10,000) per annum inclusive of a Staff for both
clerical and technical work and for all other expensos
incidental to his office, on the understanding that the
Crown Solicitor provided a fully qualified assistant whose
services are at the disposal of Government when required.
The present application, there-
-fore, rendered necessary the consideration of the question
